Item Description
Original Item: Only One Available. Made in Liège, Belgium for the French market, this fine 11mm 6 shot Pin Fire Revolver was of a type imported into the United States for Officer's private purchase during the Civil War. The Pinfire system was the earliest form of "Cartridge" developed, with a pin projecting out at 90 degrees to the cartridge case. When struck by the falling hammer the cartridge discharged. At the time up against muzzle loading percussion Revolvers, these were revolutionary. However, like most things by the end of the Civil War technology had moved on, and in the late 1860s regular type rimfire and centerfire cartridges as we know them today had been introduced.
This is a very nice example, lightly engraved on the frame and cylinder with plant and floral designs. It is fitted with fine French Walnut checkered wood grip that are still "Crisp", with a lanyard ring at the bottom. There is no maker marked, but it does bear serial number 17204 on the right side of the frame. It also has CROWN over L proofs as well as E / L G / * in an oval on the side of the cylinder, the standard proofs used in Liège, Belgium. This city produced many guns for the French market under contract.
The revolver is mainly double action, but can also be cocked and discharged, Western Style, in Single Action. A very nice example with a handsome octagonal barrel.
Fully cleaned and an Antique, ready to display!
