Original French 11mm Engraved Pinfire Revolver Fitted with Folding Bayonet - circa 1863

Item Description

Original Item: Only One Available. This is a lovely engraved French Pin Fire Revolver made in the early 1860 using the "NEW" Pin Fire cartridge system. Each bullet had a small rod protruding from the rear of the cartridge case in a perpendicular direction and when depressed (fired) by the falling hammer the descending rod ignites charge inside the cartridge case. The cylinder holes 6 cartridges of what appears to be 11mm ammunition. These revolvers were often custom made, and they cam in a variety of non-standard calibers.

Beneath the barrel of this bag-gripped revolver is mounted a "Folding blade", which can quickly be pointed out in front of the barrel as opposed to being stored in the safety position of pointing backward. A quick press of the release button and the locked blade can then be returned to its non threatening status. Frame and cylinder have decorative engraving with what may be proof marks incorporated into the cylinder engraved decoration.

This is definately a FRENCH PARISIAN Revolver but may have actually been manufactured under contract in Liege, Belgium for the French Market.

Very impressive and most interesting, ready to display.
