  • Original Item. Only One Available. The Nordfront Cross was awarded to German soldiers who fought against Soviet troops at the Eismeerfront in Finland.

Constructed of silvered tombak with multi-colored enamels, consisting of a Cross Pattée, joined together through the quadrans by a mobile swas (hook cross) with its arms bearing the raised names of key engagements, the obverse of the cross with dark blue enameled arms, bearing a central circular oak leaf wreath surrounding a white enameled disc, bearing a central Finnish coat of arms topped by the flags of both Finland and Germany, the latter flanking dates 1941-43 and circumscribed by an inscription of POHJOISRINTAMA - DIE NORDFRONT, which means "Northern Front" in Finnish and German.

The ends of the arms of the swas are marked with locations of major battles during the "Continuation War" with the USSR: PETSAMO, SALLA, UHTUA, and KIESTINKI. The latter two of these were eventually taken by the USSR, and today are known as Kalevala and Kestenga, respectively. Both are part of the Republic of Karelia within Russia today.

The reverse has a central threaded lug retaining an original washer. This example is in good shape overall with the enamel well-retained. A great example, ready for further research and display.
