Original Item: Very Few Available. We are offering a small selection of original one piece camouflage jumpsuits used as Soviet Russian Paratrooper wardrobe during the filming of John Milius’ 1984 film Red Dawn. These uniforms were worn by background actors portraying Soviet forces in the movie and each example shows varying degrees of production wear, “battle damage,” and period repairs.
The suits are patterned after the Soviet Kamuflirovannyy Letniy Maskirovochnyy Kombinezon, commonly abbreviated KLMK, camouflage jumpsuit. Each example retains a TALON marked zipper and a cuff tag bearing the size letter.
Every suit is stamped or inscribed: CRC
This marking denotes Costume Rentals Corporation, the wardrobe rental company that supplied a substantial amount of clothing used in the production.
Each jumpsuit is accompanied by a copy of a letter of provenance from Bob Chatt, identifying the source of the uniforms and stating that these “Russian uniforms” were used in Red Dawn by background actors.
Condition varies from piece to piece. Some examples show obvious tears or other deliberate “battle damage,” while others have visible repairs from production use. All remain displayable and retain the kind of wear expected from original film wardrobe.
Red Dawn was released in 1984 and directed by John Milius, from a screenplay co-written with Kevin Reynolds. The cast included Patrick Swayze, Charlie Sheen, C. Thomas Howell, Lea Thompson, Jennifer Grey, Ben Johnson, Darren Dalton, Harry Dean Stanton, Ron O’Neal, William Smith, and Powers Boothe.
The film is set during a fictional World War III in which the United States is invaded by Soviet and allied forces. The story follows a group of teenage resistance fighters, the Wolverines, as they wage a guerrilla campaign in occupied Colorado.
The film became a commercial success and developed a strong cult following. It was also the first film released in the United States with a PG-13 rating under the revised Motion Picture Association rating system introduced in 1984.
These are especially interesting examples of original Cold War era film wardrobe, with direct CRC identification, visible production wear, and accompanying provenance tying them to one of the most recognizable American action films of the 1980s.
