Original Item: Only One Available. These are something that we have only ever had very few of. It is an excellent condition U.S. M1892 bayonet dated 1899, made for the Springfield Model 1892–99 Krag-Jørgensen rifles, some of which were still in use during WWI. It is fitted with its original all steel scabbard with a swivel belt loop on the back. These are very rarely seen on today's market, especially with the scabbard included and fully intact.
The "Krag" was the U.S. Army's first repeating rifle, and the M1892 bayonet was based on the Swiss M1889 bayonet, made for use on the 7.5 mm. M1889 Schmidt-Rubin straight-pull bolt-action rifle.
This example is in excellent condition, with the bright finish still in great shape, showing much of the original factory machine marks, and minimal staining. The blade still has the original factory "blunt" grind, and there is just a bit of oxidation on the crossguard and hilt. The 1892 pattern "smooth" grips are in good condition with just a few dents and chips, and are held in place by the correct "ground smooth" rivets, which after 1899 were left domed. The wood does show some wear and open grain, but still has a great color. The blade is marked 1899 on one side, and US on the other, and has a fully functional bayonet catch.
The scabbard is in excellent cosmetic condition, with the original blued finish almost completely retained! It still has a fully functional swivel, which has an intact tensioning washer that keeps the scabbard from swinging freely. Unfortunately, the wire belt clip itself is missing, however these can be found relatively easily on the market. The scabbard body is straight, with no real rust issues at all, and the body is free from major dents, as shown.
