Original Item: One Only. Found in the old Palace in Kathmandu in our 2003 purchase from the Royal Nepalese Armory, this an East India Company Flintlock Musket, designated as LIGHT INFANTRY MUSKET WITH FLAT LOCK 1811-1818 according to David Harding in his stellar work AN INTRODUCTION TO EAST INDIA COMPANY SMALL ARMS 1775 - 1815, page 37.
According to Harding, the first type was made with a short 6.2" length flat lock plate, between 1811 and 1812 with a production run of just 6,140 units. In 1813 the length of the flat lock plate was changed to 6.8" and continued with a type two production of a further 50,530 units. Additionally, Harding states that few of the locks have survived and there are no known examples of the complete musket as we offer here.
Our Musket bears EIC proof Marks on the barrel and the rampant Lion EIC Logo on the lock plate, which was adopted in 1808. Interestingly the barrel has been equipped with an open "V" back sight, which can be utilized using the bayonet stud as the front sight.
In great fully cleaned condition this musket is ready to display.
