Original Item: Only one available. Well this is really just a peach! Here we have a lovely early American flintlock fowling piece, made circa 1770 shortly before the outbreak of the U.S. Revolutionary War. It is all brass mounted and shows a high level of construction, made in the typical style of the time, which was essentially a scaled down "British" style. It is still in the original flintlock configuration, and shows no signs of an type of alteration after it was made, just the way we like to see them!
The fowling piece measures 57 inches in overall length, and is fitted with a 41 inch long 23 gauge barrel, held in place by pins in the British style. There is no nose cap, and the metal tipped ramrod is held in place by three pipes. The brass fittings are all in very good shape except for the sheet brass butt plate, which is missing sections on the bottom and right side. The lock functions, but it does not have a functional full cock position at present, and fires at half cock. It has a notch rear sight in the barrel tang, and a nice oval "blade" front sight. The stock is just lovely, most likely made from walnut, and shows no major repairs or issues, just some cracking on the left side by the brass lock screw escutcheons.
