  • Original Item. One-of-a-Kind. This is one of the most well-preserved powder horns we have ever encountered. Dating to the early 18th Century, this horn was embellished with leather fittings and miraculously still retains these embellishments, with their original stitching still in place. It cannot be overstated how uncommon this is, as 300+ year old leather is almost never found intact.

The powder horn measures roughly 12½” long and still retains its original wooden plug. The bottom is wooden and the leather embellishments wrapped around this wooden base, and can be seen partially deteriorated, giving a great insight into the piece’s construction. The leather is a small bit loose in spots but otherwise looks amazing. The age & patina of the leather adds volumes to the character of this fantastic powder horn. You can see the leather fading away towards the edges.

We believe the horn to date to the early 18th Century, but we are unsure of where it came from or by whom it was used. This is one of the most phenomenal horns we have offered, and comes ready for further research and display!
