Original Item: Only one available. This is a very rare "Queen Anne" style pistol with a single piece iron frame and barrel, made in a relatively short length compared to what we usually see. It is marked on the bottom of the lock under the frizzen spring by maker IOHN SIBLEY of London. Known to have made Holster Pistols for Queen's Anne's Army, John Sibley became one of London's premier Gun Makers by the end of the 17th Century. He also made guns under contract for the Hudson Bay Company. As was the custom of the time, the J in his name was "Latinized" to I, which did not have the letter J.
The short pistol is relatively spartan compared to some we have seen, though there is definitely some lovely engraving around the frame area, which is continuous with the barrel. Aside from the maker mark, we were not able to find any other marking on the pistol, though there does appear to be a good amount of wear around the breech area, so if there were proofs, they may have worn away. It looks to feature some type of safety on the rear of the "lock plate", but it does not move at present.
The pistol measures 9 inches in overall length, with a 4 3/8 inch cannon barrel in the typical "Queen Anne" style, however in this case it is not removable. The pistol has an iron trigger guard, and there is no provision for a ramrod. The dark English Walnut butt grip is lovely, and has some carving around the barrel tang, and sides. The color is truly lovely, and there is a hairline crack on the right hand side of the grip. Condition is very nice, with a lovely patina of age. The lock functions, holding correctly at half cock and firing at full.
A very interesting "Queen Anne" flintlock pistol by a known London maker, in fine Collector's condition ready to display!
