Original Early 17th South German Nürnberg Iron Infantry Battle Shield of Shot-Proof Weight - Circa 1600

Original item: Only One Available. Recently acquired from a newly released museum quality collection is this incredible circular convex iron shield of shot-proof weight. Its diameter measures approximately 24 inches with a 4 inch central spike. Of particular note is a proving dent located approximately 4 inches off of center. Weight is heavy, hence the shot-proofing, at 17.5 lbs. Perimeter edge is upped and features 28 rivets with decorative roundels. Reverse shows replacement cloth straps in poor condition. Dates from approximately 1600 and they style, weight, and proofing indicate a Southern German origin, most likely Nürnberg (Nuremberg).
