The Eurometaal Zaandam EMZ-NR-20 hand grenade was a series of grenades that were developed for service with the Royal Army of the Netherlands. This is a conventional, anti-personnel weapon that utilizes the NR19C3/20C1 fuse, which on this example is dated October of 1988 with the sticker still retained on the spoon. The fuse has a pyrotechnic delay detonation and a filling comprised of high explosive charge and small steel balls used as shrapnel. The small shrapnel steel balls are still present in this example and without the explosive filling, this sounds more like a “forbidden maraca”! The body is not steel as seen with most grenades, this one is constructed out of a extremely durable plastic which has a pebbling texture to give the user a better grip.
This is a wonderful example and comes more than ready for further research and display.
