Original Danish Model 1853/66 Snider Naval Rifle Sword Bayonet with Regimental Marking

Item Description

Original Item. Only One available. Intended for use as a Short Sword as well as a bayonet, examples of these are extremely scarce. What we have here is a very nice example of a Danish Model 1853/66 Bayonet, intended for use on the Danish short 1853/66 Snider Naval Rifle. These rifles were originally muzzle loaders, but were converted at Copenhagen Arsenal to the Snider breech loading system. These rifles were then replaced by the Remington Rolling block, so their service use was relatively short.

This lovely Brass handled bayonet measures 27 inches overall, with a 22 inch double edged blade. The design was based on the P-1837 and P-1847 first and second models of the British Brunswick Rifle Bayonet.

The solid brass hilt is clearly REGIMENTALLY MARKED:-

1 S. HIC. 2C.158.

This stands for the 1ST. SLESVIG HOLSTEIN JEAGER CORPS, 2ND COMPANY No. 158. There are also proof marks on both the blade and hilt.

Very Rare in wonderful condition! Ready to display, or match to that Danish Naval Snider hanging on the wall!
