Original Item. Only One Available. This is an extraordinarily scarce poster promoting recruiting for the Czechoslovakian Legion during World War I. The poster was designed by Czech artist Vojtech Preissig and was printed at the School of Printing and Graphic Arts of Wentworth Institute where Preissig was director. The poster measures 25 x 36” and is in great condition.
The poster reads
Už Slovensko vstává
putá si strhávä
Slovakia is already rising
He pulls off his handcuffs
This poster was both promoting recruitment for the Legion as well as promoting the Czech people in general, as they had hoped for their own nation after the fall of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. This is often considered one of the most iconic posters of Czech history. The poster was issued by the Czechoslovak Recruiting Office at the Tribune Building in New York.
The poster is in great condition with just some small tears along the edges as shown, the color is very well-retained overall. A fantastic example of an extremely rare poster, ready for further research and display.
