Item Description
Original Item: Only One Available. This is a very nice example of a mid 19th Century French percussion pistol, most likely made and customized for a French Army Officer. It is signed on the percussion back action lock:
Manuf're. Imp. de
Châtellerault
J. MICHEL
This really is a most elegant officer's pistol. It has fine walnut wood stock which is checkered on the grip. It is equipped with full iron mounts including original brass-tipped ram rod. The octagonal 8 3/4 barrel appears to be very well figured Damascus steel and is fully rifled with a multitude of spiraled grooves. It also is dated 1853 on the right side, and there are proof marks on the left. It isn't clear whether this was made specifically at arsenal for a high-ranking officer, or whether it was customized after issue.
In just splendid this is just what French Officers used in the Crimean War against the Russians in the mid 1850's. In fabulous condition.
A delight to see and ready to Display!
