Original Item: Only One Available. The Soviet GSH-6 Pressurized Sub-Orbital Flying Helmet was usually used on MIG-21, MIG-23 and MIG-25 fighter interceptor airplanes as well as for cosmonaut training flights. The clear pressure visor is electrically heated to prevent fogging of the visor.
This example comes mostly equipped. The cloth inner helmet has an integrated communications system, 2 headphones and a boom microphone. The outer helmet is electrically connected with the inner system. Including the transport container, and locking neck-ring with rubber gasket, though there is heavy deterioration to the rubber. The original crate is included with a retained data plate. The case measures roughly 12½ x 14”. The case is in good shape overall, and the data plate has a date of 05 76 for May 1976.
The helmet is in fair shape overall but the rubber on the interior of the zipper sheet that connects to the bottom of the helmet is peeling and ripping off which has resulted in many small pieces of hard rubber forming. This is a good helmet with the visor and retractable interior visor still in good working order. The helmet retains its original inner carry bag. The helmet just needs some TLC. The original data booklet is inside.
This is a good example of a scarce helmet, ready for further research and display.
The Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-21 is a supersonic jet fighter and interceptor aircraft, designed by the Mikoyan-Gurevich Design Bureau in the Soviet Union. Its nicknames include: Balalaika, because its planform resembles the stringed musical instrument of the same name; Ołówek, Polish for "pencil", due to the shape of its fuselage, and; Én bạc, meaning "Silver Swallow", in Vietnamese.
Approximately 60 countries over four continents have flown the MiG-21, and it still serves many nations six decades after its maiden flight. It made aviation records, became the most-produced supersonic jet aircraft in aviation history, the most-produced combat aircraft since the Korean War and previously the longest production run of a combat aircraft (now exceeded by both the McDonnell Douglas F-15 Eagle and General Dynamics F-16 Fighting Falcon).
