Original Civil War Era French Mle 1842 Percussion Short Rifled Musket by L. Lambin & Co. of Liège
Original Item: Only One Available. This is exactly the type of "Rifled" Musket that the Confederacy imported from Western Europe before and during the Civil War. Here we have a French Model of 1842 Short Artillery Rifled Musket with a back action lock. These were usually produced as smoothbore long muskets, but the export trade required rifles, indicating this was possibly made for export to the U.S. Civil War Market.
It is fully steel mounted and does bear a maker marking on the lock plate: L. LAMBIN & CIE / LIÉGE, indicating manufacture in Belgium in the gun-making city of Liège. There is also the iconic Liège E / L G / * in an Oval marking on the barrel knoxform. This rifle may have originally had French markings, which were scrubbed when it was rifled later. Definitely some interesting research potential.
Generally covered in old pitting stains but still a nice tight rifle just showing it's age. Overall length about 49 1/2" fitted with it's original barrel of 34", which carries a Sword Bayonet mount on the front right hand side. This is presumably for the Brass Hilted French M-1842 bayonet, which are still available on the Collector's Market. Dusted off, not extensively cleaned showing its authentic look from over 170 tears of existence. Lock functions correctly, holding at half stock and firing at full.
Very possibly imported for the Civil War and ready to restore or display as is!
