Original Item: Only One Available. This is an excellent original Canadian WWII MkII steel helmet, manufactured by the Canadian Motorlamp Company of Windsor, Ontario in 1940 and fitted with a 1941-dated Viceroy Manufacturing Co. liner in the exceptionally large size 7 ¾. The helmet retains a securely fitted net, an unidentified painted unit flash to the front, and an original Australian-made First Field Dressing dated August 1942.
The shell is stamped C. L. / C 1940 for 1940 manufacture by the Canadian Motorlamp Company of Windsor Ontario. Fitted to the shell is a single-tone helmet net which is well-secured.
The liner is stamped:
7 ¾
V.M.C.
I
1941
V.M.C. denotes manufacture by the Viceroy Manufacturing Co of Toronto, Canada. The size, 7 ¾, is one of the largest we have ever seen on one of these helmets. The liner has some stiffening but the chinstrap is retained in good order.
Attached within the net is a clearly marked First Field Dressing, dated August 1942 and produced by Johnson & Johnson of Sydney, Australia. During World War II, Johnson & Johnson Pty Ltd in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, served as a major wartime manufacturer of medical and first-aid supplies for the war effort.
The combination of the 1940 Canadian Motorlamp shell, 1941 Viceroy liner, unusually large size 7 ¾, unidentified painted unit flash, securely fitted helmet net, and August 1942 Australian First Field Dressing makes this a particularly interesting Canadian WWII helmet. The unresolved front insignia provides an excellent opportunity for further unit research, while the dated Canadian and Australian components give the assembly strong Commonwealth wartime character.
