  • Original Items. One-of-a-Kind Group. This is a Canadian medal grouping identified to Private Albert Edward Smith, 60th Battalion Canadian Infantry, who was killed in action on August 17th, 1917. Smith died at the age of 26.


    The group includes his WWI War Medal and his WWI Victory Medal, both rim-engraved 139241 PTE A.E. SMITH 60-CAN.INF., and his mother’s Memorial Cross, engraved on the back:

    Smith was born October 23rd, 1890 in London, England. He moved to Toronto, Ontario, Canada at a young age and Attested in the Army on September 2nd, 1915. He sailed from Halifax to England on March 29th, 1916. He was wounded by a gunshot to the right knee on September 21st, 1916, and by October, he was much improved. He rejoined his unit which had become the 75th Battalion. On August 17th, 1917, he was killed in action. His records indicate the Memorial Cross was given to his mother in 1920. 


    Also included is the small issue card for his two medals.


    A very scarce group to honor the memory of this fallen soldier, ready for display.
