Original Items: One-of-a-Kind. This is a heavily service-worn British WWII Royal Air Force Type C leather flying helmet accompanied by an original pair of RAF Mk. VIII flying goggles. The helmet has been fitted with U.S.-pattern ANB-H-1 radio receivers and retains its electrical cord terminating in a PL-354 plug, creating an interesting Anglo-American communications configuration. The goggles are likewise well used, with a broken elastic strap, deterioration to the center leather bridge, and discoloration to the lenses. Altogether, this is an honest representative set of late-war Allied flying equipment with substantial age and wear throughout.

The set consists of:

- WWII British RAF Type C leather flying helmet with American ANB-H-1 headphones and retained electrical cord. One side of the headphones is missing the rubber cover as it broke away, so the headphone is loose on this side. The other side was taped into place during the period. The cord end is marked PL-354. There is heavy wear across the helmet and the elastic chinstrap is retained albeit very frayed and torn. There is tearing in the base leather of the helmet at the front top and in other spots.

- WWII RAF Mk. VIII flight goggles, broken strap and leather tab in center is breaking away. Lenses have some discoloration. Leather tab is marked with MK. VIII and Air Ministry code.

Condition throughout the set is best described as heavily service worn and fragile in several areas. The helmet itself retains its fundamental Type C construction, chamois lining, receiver arrangement, and communications cord, while the goggles remain identifiable and substantially complete despite the failed strap and deteriorating leather bridge. The loose receiver, missing rubber receiver cover, old tape repair, frayed chinstrap, and broken goggle strap are all important parts of the present condition and should be considered before handling.

The strongest aspect of this grouping is the combination of a genuine RAF Type C flying helmet, Mk. VIII goggles, American ANB-H-1 receivers, and PL-354 communications plug. The mixture of British and American components is particularly interesting in the context of the extensive equipment interchange that developed among Allied air forces during the later years of WWII. Although there is no named airman or provenance tying the pieces to a specific unit or aircraft, the surviving construction and markings make this an excellent study set of wartime aviation equipment in untouched, heavily used condition.
