The MkVIII goggles were the final and most successful of the RAF issue flying goggles during the Second World War. Introduced officially in October 1943, they were not supplied to aircrew until the earlier stocks were exhausted. The MkVIII's continued in RAF service until made obsolete by the introduction of fibreglass helmets fitted with drop-down visors.
The box contains a pair of blue-painted metal-framed goggles fitted with split-angled glass eye-pieces set in a leather padded cushion. There is an adjustable elasticated fabric strap fitted with a metal hook and leather tab. The box is in excellent condition and reads on the top:
This is the finest pair of Mk. VIII Royal Air Force WW2 goggles you'll ever find!
