Original British WWII Lee-Enfield SMLE No.1 Dummy Training Rifle with P-1907 Bayonet by Chapman

Item Description

Original Item: Only One Available. We sold British WWII SMLE Training rifles like these for years, but sadly those are long gone, and we just purchased this excellent example from a private collection. This is original WWII production and issue, for use during training exercises. The Dummy Rifle is constructed from wood and metal, with lead bars inlaid into the top and bottom of the stock, to help simulate the weight and feel of a real rifle. There is a substantial steel Front Sight Mount with Bayonet Stand for affixing a Bayonet yet there is No Barrel or Action, just a simulated Trigger, trigger guard and fixed magazine and simulated aluminum Standard adjustable SMLE Back Sight. The sight has marked on the side with:

Also marked in the stock D (Broad Arrow) 905, the British arsenal acceptance marking. The stock of this example really is choice, and is quite a bit better than the examples we had. All components are still present, including the sling swivels, which were often broken off, or removed to put on real rifles. The trigger guard is a bit loose, as they are just held in by spring force, and can be removed easily.

Along with this lovely display rifle, we are including a WWI issue P-1907 Bayonet, as would have often been encountered in training. Originally when WWII started, British forces were still using the P1907 with the long 17" blade, so existing WWI bayonets were put back into service. The bayonet is in good condition, and is marked with manufacturer CHAPMAN as well as manufacture date of 10 '16, for October 1916. It has all of the proper acceptance and arsenal markings, and was not cut down during WWII.

A very nice example of a WWII Training aid, ready to hang on the wall and display!
