Original Item: Only One Available. This is a fair original late-war British Third Pattern Fairbairn-Sykes fighting knife with brass grip and original scabbard. The Fairbairn-Sykes became one of the most recognizable British fighting knives of the Second World War and was closely associated with Commandos and other specialist units. Third Pattern examples were produced in several variations, and this example retains the earlier-style brass grip rather than the later blackened alloy type.
The condition of the knife is fair, heavily sharpened with relatively sharp edges, and heavy loss of the black finish on the blade. There is also heavy surface oxidation to the blade. The plain blued steel cross guard is tight on the blade with no wobble and heavy surface oxidation as shown. It is marked on the underside of the crossguard with the standard ENGLAND stamping which was done for exportation purposes. There is verdigris across the brass handle.
The scabbard is in rough condition with electrical tape repairs to the body and a reproduction securing strap added later. The tongue is intact but very weak and has material and stitching loss as shown. The brass drag is retained along with the two leather tabs on the back of the scabbard body. The elastic band is gone.
Despite the considerable sharpening, finish loss, oxidation, verdigris, and later scabbard repairs, this remains a substantially complete Third Pattern Fairbairn-Sykes fighting knife with its original scabbard and ENGLAND export marking. The brass grip, intact crossguard, surviving scabbard fittings, and visible period wear provide useful points of study for collectors interested in British WWII fighting knives and their later export history.
