Original British WWII Anti-NSDAP Propaganda Poster - “Tighten Your Grip!” - 20” x 13”

Item Description

Original Item: Only One Available. Britain re-created the World War I Ministry of Information for the duration of World War II to generate propaganda to influence the population towards support for the war effort. A wide range of media was employed aimed at local and overseas audiences. Traditional forms such as newspapers and posters were joined by new media including cinema (film), newsreels and radio. A wide range of themes were addressed, fostering hostility to the enemy, support for allies, and specific pro war projects such as conserving metal and growing vegetables.

Posters were widely used in propaganda campaigns. Their content ranged from simple instructions to purely motivational content. This lovely poster by Frank Newbould was produced towards the end of the war. This particular artist did a number of poster series, all similar in nature. After the liberation of Northern France such posters were designed so that the meaning could be clearly understood in any language and be used to maintain the morale of the Allies.

This is definitely a poster that would be understood in any language. The poster features a Swas being destroyed by a pair of end cutting pliers, shattering when the grip was tightened. The message across the top is TIGHTEN YOUR GRIP and it’s a clear one at that. This was towards the end of the war and the allies were on the enemy's heels and now was not the time to ease up on them, victory was near.

This poster is in lovely condition, and just like the American posters from WWII, it was folded for the distribution process, so the center crease is still present. There is no excessive wear to the edges or corner and the colors are still vibrant and easily discernible.

This is truly a wonderful example of WWII British anti-axis propaganda. Comes ready to be mounted and framed!
