  • Original Item: Only One Available. The Cooper bomb was a British 20 pound bomb used extensively in World War I, it was the first high explosive bomb to be adapted by the Royal Flying Corps. This is a fantastic example that retains both the spinning fuze and the scarce fuze cover! This example was also repainted green with red & white bands.

This example is totally inert and in compliance per the current standards put out by the BATF in regards to inert ordnance ownership. This Cooper Bomb is unable to be rendered live again to be used as an explosive device and is not available for export.

The bomb was 24 lb (11 kg) in weight, of which 20 lb (9 kg) was the bomb casing and 4 lb (1.8 kg) was an explosive charge of Amatol. The main body, being 5⁄16 inch (8 mm) thick, was made of cast iron, steel or semisteel and the after body (tail) is made of wood and the fins sheet steel. It measures approximately 26 inches in overall length with a width of about 5 inches.

The bomb is in very weak and rough “relic” condition with the wood of the tail assembly heavily broken and fragile. The fuse cover is removable to show the interior, but the fuze is gone. The paint is heavily worn and oxidized, and this example may have been ground dug, or at least found on the battlefield. The display will be a bit difficult due to the extensive damage, and it would display best with the fuze cover off sitting upside down to not disturb the wood any further. The fins are still attached, but they are able to move up and down now due to material loss on the wood. This example is perfect for the relic collector!

A rare and seldom seen aerial bomb from WWI ready for display!
