Original British WWI Parliamentary Recruiting Committee Poster “Lord Kitchener Says” - 29” x 20”

Item Description

Original Item: Only One Available. Britain’s army at the beginning of the First World War was relatively small and professional. There was no conscription of population before 1916, and so recruitment of volunteers in large numbers became a huge challenge.

The Parliamentary Recruitment Committee was set up at the start of the War, and chaired by the Prime Minister, Herbert Asquith. It used local political party associations to form a network which campaigned through the circulation of leaflets and posters, and organizing rallies and other public events.

This is a lovely British World War I poster by Hudson & Sons, which states:

GERMAN CRUELTY TO
BRITISH PRISONERS

LORD KITCHENER says:-

The Germans have stripped
and insulted British Prisoners and
have shot some in cold blood.

The Germans act with the same
barbarous savagery as the Sudan Dervishes.

THE PRIME MINISTER says:-

We shall not forget this horrible
record of calculated cruelty and crime
and we shall exact reparation against
the guilty Germans.

JUSTICE CANNOT BE DONE WITHOUT YOUR HELP

The poster is in wonderful condition and only has very minor tearing along the fold marks. All colors are still vivid and the text easily discernible.

Comes more than ready for display.
