  • Original Item: Only One Available. Imported from the Kingdom of Nepal in 2003, this is an original British manufactured and issued Pattern 1898 Infantry Sword sword in the original leather clad field scabbard. It is dated 1917 on the blade ricasso, and also stamped 4.18 under the guard, indicating issue in April 1918. There are also inspection stamps with broad with marking on the ricasso. The bade is maker marked MOLE / BIRMm indicating that the sword was made by the firm of Robert Mole in Birmingham.

The steel hilt guard bears a Royal Cypher of King George V, showing intertwined GRI standing for Georgivs Rex Imperator. These swords were almost certainly carried by British Officers leading Gurkha troops in World War One. Each sword was originally issued with two scabbards, one all steel that was sometimes even nickel plated for parade use as well as a steel mounted dark leather scabbard referred to as a field scabbard that was intended for use in battle. Only a field scabbard is included with the purchase of this sword.

Almost all of the swords we received out of Nepal were from earlier Monarchs. This is one of the very few that was made during the WWI period and has the Cypher of George V on it. Ready to display!
