Original British WWI Officer's Telescope and Photograph of Lt. Bernard Beanlands - KIA in 1918

Item Description

Original Item: Only One Available. From the wonderful Telescope Collection we purchased last year in England this is a Classic Officer's private purchase, top of the line three draw trench telescope, complete with a photograph of the officer it is named to. It is marked on the smallest barrel by the eyepiece with the maker and model information:

T.T. & H. Ltd
1916
No. 3043
TEL. SIG. (Mk IV) ALSO G.S.
(Broad Arrow)

The fourth line indicates that this telescope is an official military pattern. It comes complete with a forward extending sun shade, giving it a length of 36 1/2" when fully extended and only 11 1/4" when fully closed/compressed. The main barrel still has its leather covering, though the strap loops have been removed. Also the sun shade is missing the leather covering. The optics appear clear and it has a sliding internal lens cover on the eye piece.

The telescope also bears the name of the officer who owned it:

Lt. BERNARD P. BEANLANDS.
HAMPSHIRE REG.t

In addition we include a large photograph of the Lieutenant in uniform holding a Swagger Stick which the former Owner/Collector has indicated was the young Officer in question. We were told his middle name was PAUL, and that he was KILLED IN ACTION in 1918.

A nice item with a sad tale, Clean and ready to use or display.
