Original British WWI 9th Queen's Royal Lancers Uniform with Collar Insignia by the Royal Army Clothing Factory - Dated May 1914

Original Item: Only One Available. The 9th Queen's Royal Lancers was a cavalry regiment of the British Army, first raised in 1715. It saw service for three centuries, including the First and Second World Wars. The regiment survived the immediate post-war reduction in forces, but was amalgamated with the 12th Royal Lancers to form the 9th/12th Royal Lancers in 1960.
Dating to May of 1914, right before the start of the First World War, this is an outstanding example that was likely worn through the war. The regiment landed in France as part of the 2nd Cavalry Brigade in the 1st Cavalry Division in August 1914 for service on the Western Front. Captain Francis Grenfell was awarded the Victoria Cross for his actions in saving the guns of 119th Battery, Royal Field Artillery on 24 August 1914 (he was later killed in action on 24 May 1915, as was his twin brother, Riversdale, a yeomanry officer who attached to 9th Lancers). The regiment then participated in the final "lance on lance" action involving British cavalry of the First World War; on 7 September 1914 at Montcel à Frétoy in which Lieutenant Colonel David Campbell led a charge of two troops of B Squadron and overthrew a squadron of the Prussian Dragoons of the Guard.
The tunic retains all buttons and the rare 9th Lancer collar insignia. There are yellow cord shoulder straps and all buttons are marked for the 9th Lancers. The cuffs and rear retain all buttons as well! There is a lovely retained maker’s tag on the interior for the ROYAL ARMY CLOTHING FACTORY, with a clear date of MAY 1914, perfect for WWI issue.
