  • Original Item: Only One Available: The Pattern 1796 Light Cavalry Sabre is a sword that was used primarily by British Light Dragoons and hussars, and King's German Legion light cavalry during the Napoleonic Wars. It was adopted by the Prussians (as the 1811 pattern or "Blücher sabre") and used by Portuguese and Spanish cavalry. This example shares many of the patterns characteristics but has some distinct differences as well.

This example appears to be a War of 1812 period British example with a brass hilt and fluted horn grip that has some heavy chipping and material loss. The 35 ½” blade has two fullers and a false edge, with heavy edge chipping along the top half of its length. The overall length is 41 ¼”. The fluted horn grip shows heavy wear with some chunks missing in the middle at both ends as shown. The blade is still tight to the hilt.

The blade has scattered oxidation spotting with some staining in spots. A very scarce pattern of sword to find, ready for display.

    Specifications:
    Overall length: 41 1/4”
    Blade length: 35 1/2”
    Crossguard: 5”
