Item Description
Original Item. Only One Available. This is a gorgeous example of an early 19th century British cavalry saber with a classic brass & leather-covered wood hilt, maker marked on the spine to Woolley & Sargent of Birmingham. This firm was a well-known manufacturer of the 1796 Pattern Light Cavalry Saber, and this appears to be a slightly later variation.
The sword has a long curved blade measuring 29¾”, with an overall length of 34½”. The sword has a gorgeous patina across the blade, which has no chips along its edge. The blade has been well cared for without its scabbard. The leather washer is no longer present. Much of the leather on the grip has worn away as these often do. The hilt is in great shape without any serious dents. There is a crack in the wood of the grip, but it is still solid and shows no sign of breakage.
This is a phenomenal example of a War of 1812 era cavalry saber maker-marked to a well-known manufacturer of swords out of Birmingham. The patina is glorious and this sword will become a welcome addition to any early sword collection. Comes ready for further research and display.
