Original British Victorian Tower-Marked Saddle Ring Percussion Cavalry Carbine dated 1855
Original Item: Only One Available. Cavalry carbines such as this are very nice and now very hard to find. This fine example has a 21" smoothbore barrel in .59" caliber, and is fitted with double sliding saddle rings on a 6" ring bar mounted on the left hand side of the receiver. Intended for domestic use, this would have been used by one of the many cavalry units. It has all brass mounts: two ramrod pipes, trigger guard and butt plate. The ramrod is also the "captured" type, secured by a swivel mount to muzzle so it can be used while on horseback to reload without fear of dropping the ramrod.
The Percussion lock is well marked on the lock plate tail with CROWN / V.R. indicating military issue for Queen Victoria. It is also marked 1855 / TOWER on the body, with the CROWN / V lock viewers mark and another proof.
There are also additional proof marks on the barrel and lock plate. Complete with wide Sling swivels, this percussion muzzle loader has been fully cleaned and restored. There is minimal powder burn around the cap nipple, indicating that it probably did not see significant use in combat. On this item we have found NO COLONIAL ISSUE MARKINGS WHATSOEVER.
