Original British Victorian Tower-Marked Saddle Ring Artillery Percussion Carbine dated 1845

Item Description

Original Item: Only One Available. Carbines such as this are very nice and now very hard to find. This fine example has a 25 1/2" smoothbore barrel in .75" caliber, and is fitted with double sliding Saddle rings on a 6" ring loop mounted on the left hand side of the receiver. We rather believe that these were intended for the mounted Artillerymen of the ROYAL HORSE ARTILLERY. It has all brass mounts, two ramrod pipes, trigger guard and butt plate, and the ramrod is secured by a swivel mount to muzzle so it can be used while on horseback to reload without fear of dropping the ramrod.

The Percussion lock is well marked with:-

(CROWN)
V.R.
TOWER 1845

There is a tag attached to the gun indicating that the barrel is marked on the hidden under side with contractor's name(s) W.MILLWARD, J. KE[EN?]. There are also additional proof marks on the barrel and lock plate. Complete with wide Sling swivels, this percussion muzzle loader has been fully cleaned and restored. It does show considerable powder burn and corrosion on the barrel near the cap nipple, indicating that it definitely saw a good amount of use. On this item we have found NO COLONIAL ISSUE MARKINGS WHATSOEVER.

A hard to find Mounted Artillery weapon, Ready to display!
