Item Description
Original Item: Only one available. This is a great British "Man Stopper" Double Barrel pistol from the Victorian Era. With twin .61" barrels, this was sure to stop just about anyone in their tracks, and you had a second shot in case the first missed!
This lovely pistol has a heavily engraved box lock, and is marked MANTON. LONDON on the barrel strap. The Manton family were prolific gunsmiths in the London Area. JOHN MANTON was one of England's finest gunsmiths in the early part of the 19th Century, as was his brother JOSEPH, who would mentor several famous mid 19th Century gunsmiths. John's son George Henry Manton also made guns until 1854.
The pistol has a lovely finely checkered pistol grip, and is also heavily engraved on the trigger guard, as well as the butt cap, and both hammers. There are even engravings on the end of the conjoined octagonal barrels. It features a "captured" ramrod, which can swivel for use on either barrel, and there is even a small compartment on the bottom of the butt cap for extra ammunition. Both barrels bear London Proof Marks on the underside: the CROWN / CP black powder proof for muzzle loaders, as well as the CROWN / V viewed mark.
Condition is very good, and both locks function correctly, holding at half cock and firing at full, though both require a fairly strong trigger pull.
Most impressive, and ready to display!
