Original Item: Only One Available. This is a fine compact all brass three draw telescope with laced leather covering around primary cylinder and with woven rope ends. It carries the maker's name engraved on the smallest cylinder that reads:
BROADRICK of SCARBORO It extends to 18.5 when fully drawn and is only 8.5" in length when collapsed.
The most notable feature is the engraved script on the rear of the outer cylinder that reads:
ISOBELLA - WHITBY The ISOBELLA was a wailing ship built in 1845 by Jones and Company. She was 174 tons and birthed at Whitby, England's principal Whaling center on the North East Coast, not far from Scarborough. Her Captain in 1851 was THOMAS AGAR who was only 27 years old. This is a lovely little Seaman's telescope with functional optics after 175 years.
