  • Original Items. One Pair Only. This set of All-Brass Field glasses measures about 9 inches in length when fully extended, including the frontal Sun Shades, and reduces to just over 6" when fully compressed. These were "Private Purchase" by a Victorian Military Officer, as they were expected to provide their own field gear. Most likely acquired when they were leaving for one of the numerous Military Campaigns the Victorian age was so renowned for, which built the British Empire.

These are marked around the eye pieces with the addresses of British maker Sewill. One reads SEWILL 30 CORNHILL LONDON, while the other has SEWILL 61 SOUTH CASTLE ST LIVERPOOL, meaning this maker had two offices, both major ports of embarkation for soldiers.

These field glasses are quite tarnished, almost blacked, with well over 100 years of exposure, most probably to the hot Colonial Sun. Central adjustment dial and extendable brass Sun shades are now somewhat stiff.

Optics appear very clear but after so much time would no doubt benefit from a good cleaning. A small piece of Victorian Officer's essential equipment, ready to use and display.
