Original Item: Another of those rare events in antique arms: we found a small supply of the screw-in butt swivel bases that were unique to the very first Mark of the SMLE. The base has a large integral screw rather than separate base-and-screws like later marks. Before the SMLE, Metfords and Enfields used a similar butt swivel base, but it was machined with a narrow waist.
This group is a special prize in that most of the swivel bases are unissued, and they are all marked.
