  • Original Item: One-of-a-kind. This is splendid, a fine heavily checkered walnut stocked flintlock pistol made by DURS EGG with a hallmarked silver butt cap and brass mounts. The brass tipped ram rod is still complete with "screw" worm to rear end for extracting lead balls. The 9 1/2" damascus steel barrel is marked LONDON with British proof marks. The lock is scroll engraved D.EGG

The silver butt cap is engraved:

    Lt. COL. A. CARTER. 18th Lt D.

Silver Hallmarks are as follows: Anchor (Birmingham), Lion (Britannia), X (1795), CF (Crispin Fuller)

Arthur Carter was promoted Major in the Light Dragoon in December 1786, was confirmed as a Lt. Colonel on August 10th 1799 and took his position of Lieutenant Colonel of the 18th Light Dragoons on December 5th, 1799. He remained in that position until January 29th, 1801.

This is a truly lovely officer's pistol with a lovely provenance and plenty of research potential for the collector.
