Original British P-1856 Enfield .577 Saber Bayonet with Leather Scabbard and Frog
Original Item: Only One Available. This is what we call a sleeper" recently found at a country estate sale. The pattern 1856 saber bayonet features a 22.5" yataghan style blade. A yataghan was a popular blade for use with muzzle-loading muskets as the tip sweeps away from the musket's muzzle allowing little hindrance when loading the weapon.
Grips are checked leather and features steel mounts on both the bayonet and scabbard. The leather scabbard is in nice condition with tight seams.
The blade on this example is maker marked by a Solingen contractor to the British government.
The steel mounted leather scabbard comes with an original black leather belt frog marked on the back with the contractor's name:
Just lovely in totally untouched original condition straight out of a country house attic.
Intended for use with the P-1856 Two Band Enfield Short Rifle and later the Snider Short Rifle of the same model. This is still in .577 cal. however many were later reduced to .45 caliber for use with the Martini Henry Rifle.
