  • Original Item: Only One Available. Offered here is a very nice example of the 3rd Model Pattern 1853 Enfield Rifle Musket, produced in London, England, with brass butt plate, trigger guard and nose cap. The three steel barrel bands are held on with screw pressure, as typical of the 3rd model. The lock is marked TOWER / 1862 below the cap bolster, and it is marked with a QUEEN'S CROWN / V. R. to the rear of the hammer. This indicates military production for the British empire.

The Barrel bears British London Proof Marks, including CROWN / V for "Viewed" and CROWN / CP, the definitive London proof for black powder barrels since 1637. It is also marked with the number 25, and the right side of the wood butt stock has a roundel reading: YEOMANS / MAKER / LONDON. This is the maker who received made the stock under contract to the government.

The wood is complete and in great shape, with no structural issues and a lovely aged patina. There are some dents and small chips, but nothing out of line for a rifle that was in service. The sight slide is present, and the bands tighten properly. The the bore still shows clear three-groove rifling, though it has some oxidation. Lock is functional, holding at half cock and firing at full, though if you really pull the trigger you can get it to fire at half-cock. There is little powder burn, so this is a rifle that was not used much at all. The nipple looks to be original, and does have some oxidation.

The included socket bayonet is polished bright, with a proof mark as well as the maker's name of DEAKIN. It locks correctly onto the rifle, and is quite nice. Also included is the correct ramrod with a cleaning jag at the end.

A great chance to pick up a nice honestly British-Issued P-1853 Rifled Musket, ready to display!
