Original British Naval Red Leather Gunpowder Carrier - Circa 1905

Original Item: Only One Available. Circa 1905 this is a very decorative these have been in use since the 1700s. Designed to bring gunpowder to the cannons at time of action these consisted of no iron or steel parts to accidentally cause a spark and possible subsequent explosion.
Even used with the great Battle cruisers of WW1 and WW2 era when the biggest guns were loaded with a projectile and bags of powder packed behind it.
Bearing a large decal of the post 1902 British Royal Coat of Arms with a "King's Crown".
Complete with substantial leather carry handle, a striking accessory for any collection. Constructed of stiff thick leather with canvas lining, leather carry handle secured by brass fittings. Top cover is now missing.
