Original British Naval Brass Barrel Blunderbuss Swivel Gun Circa 1775

Item Description

Original Item: Only One Available. This is a truly magnificent massive Brass Barreled Blunderbuss Swivel Gun c.1775 complete with original Pintle Swivel Mount, as used by the Royal Navy during the American Revolutionary War and the subsequent Napoleonic Wars.

Measures 38" overall, with a huge heavy brass barrel 22" in length, the bell muzzle measures 2.375" across enclosing a bore size of 1.75". The substantial lock is marked SHEPPARD and the brass barrel shows the correct proof markings of the time. These included the London Proof house CROWN / CP black power proof and CROWN / V viewing marks.

Classic Naval brass fittings include folded butt plate, correct ball fronted trigger guard finial and flat early Brown Bess side plate with tail. There is one brass ramrod pipe however the steel ramrod is absent. A large steel collar is permanently fixed around the fore end and bolted to the original iron "yoke" which has a spike to be mounted into the a ship rail.

Offered in lovely matured condition this appears to be untouched since it ended its military service almost 200 years ago. Hugely rare, with wonderful patina, Royal Naval brass barreled Blunderbuss Swivel Gun complete with its original mounting pintle. Amazing.
