Original British Napoleonic Military Drum Corps Short Sword marked 42 Regiment of Foot

Original Item: Only One Available. This is a charming sword, though unfortunately this type of weapon was seldom used in combat while on active service. Dating from the Napoleonic era of 1795 to 1815 this was worn by a Drummer Boy who beat the timing for Infantry marching on the battlefield. Of simple construction consisting of a "Gladius" Roman style blade 17" long and 1 3/4" wide mounted with an all brass checkered hilt with integral cross guard. Overall 22 1/2" in length. The Short Sword is simple but very effective if needed in Combat.

The 42nd Regiment of Foot, known as the "ROYAL HIGHLAND, REGIMENT OF FOOT" saw action during the Napoleonic Wars at the Battle of Quatre Bras on 16 June 1815 under the command of Lieutenant-colonel Sir Robert Macara, who was killed in action by French Lancers. Two days later, at the Battle of Waterloo, the Regiment as a whole suffered considerable casualties, both killed and wounded, as the unit saw some of the most intense fighting of the battle.
