  • Original Item: Only One Available. This Flintlock Pistol dates to prior the Battle of Waterloo, however the 7th Light Dragoons did take part in the great battle that finally defeated Napoleon Bonaparte in 1815, so it might just have been there. The Lock Plate is marked Crown / G.R. with DUBLIN / CASTLE across the lock's tail in a shield. This makes this pistol an example of the very rare Dragoon Pistols made in DUBLIN CASTLE in Ireland, as opposed to the TOWER ARMORIES in London

The pistol is a standard full stocked flintlock pistol and has all brass mounts. The rear of the barrel is engraved C / 3, representing the 3rd man in "C" Company of the 11TH LIGHT DRAGOONS, which is also marked on the barrel (XI = L D). The ramrod is brass mounted walnut and not of the 'swivel" type, later introduced as the New Land Pattern.

The Regiment was raised in 1715 as Colonel Phillip Honeywood's Regiment of Dragoons. In 1751 it was re-titled as 11th Regiment of Dragoons and in 1788 as the 11TH. REGIMENT OF LIGHT DRAGOONS. During the Napoleonic Wars he Regiment served at the Battle of BADAJOZ in April 1812 and the Battle of SALAMANCA in July 1812 in the Peninsula War.

At The Battle of WATERLOO on June 18th 1815 it took part in the Great Charge of the Union Brigade against the French, under the command of LT.COL. James Wallace Sleigh. Well worth further research.

In fine tight and all original condition showing no restoration in fine condition. 9" .65" smooth bore barrel bearing British Proof Marks. There are also some proof marks on the stock.

A highly desirable IRISH Flintlock from the Napoleonic Wars that may have seen action at the Battle of Waterloo. Ready to display!
