  • Original Item: Only One Available. This is just pre-regulation mount manufacture, all of brass with all steel ramrod, brass cannon barrel of just 10" and 25 1/2" overall length, the barrel bears English proof marks.

The early lock with no pan reinforcement bears the Royal Cypher of Crown over "G.R." and is engraved:

    W.TURVEY

    1726

The mounts are all of brass and are more of a commercial flavor but by the 1730s regulation mounts for martial weapons had been introduced and standardized. The barrel tang screw rises from under the trigger guard and screws into the steel barrel tang, another very early feature discontinued around this time.

All in all an extremely attractive and rare early brass barreled blunderbuss made by

William Turvey (1720-1760) who took over his famous father Edward Turvey’s (1660-1720) business in London. Offered in lovely condition, ready to be a centerpiece of any British arms collection.
