Original British Martini Cavalry Carbine .303 Conversion - Dated 1888

Item Description

Original Item: Only One Available. This is a fine small Martini cavalry carbine that started life as a in 1888 as a Martini-Henry MkIII infantry rifle in .577/450 caliber still faintly showing the original markings on right side of the receiver as being manufactured by BSA & M Co (Birmingham Small Arms & Metals Co, later simply BSA).

It was converted to .303 caliber in 1903 and the left hand side of the receiver bears British acceptance markings together with the conversion date of 1903 and the armory in which this transformation took place; the "CITADEL" in Cairo, Egypt.

Being a Cavalry Carbine no bayonet lug was installed as this was intended for use with a saddle scabbard. Bearing plenty of British markings and a few in Arabic this may well have been issued to Camel troopers.

Offered in restored condition this will fit well into any British Collection as typical pre WW1 colonial equipment.
