  • Original Item: Only One Available. This is a real MONSTER! No doubt made for a massive man with the strength to heft this huge weapon. This is a truly MASSIVE double barreled shotgun, and really is of EPIC proportions.

This British Market shotgun was made in the Belgian Gunmaking city of Liège, and has 36 inch barrel assembly, marked on the rib:- FINE STUB TWIST. This of course refers to how the barrels were forged. These were usually made by heating old files, quenching the red-hot metal to make it brittle and then pounding it into very small pieces. This was added to a quantity of nail stubs from horse-shoe nails. The mixture was heated in a furnace to fuse the component parts. The metal was then hammered into rods and twisted and welded into tubes in the usual manner.

The bore of the barrels measure just over 23mm at the muzzle, indicating that these are in SIX BORE. This large size would have packed quite a punch, most likely intended for large game birds, or maybe for taking out several at once. While not nearly as large as the "Punt Gun", a true weapon water fowl destruction, this still would have been very against small groups. The gun also measures a substantial 52 inches in overall length.

The barrels assembly is marked with E / L G / * in an oval under the stock, indicating manufacture and inspection in Liège, Belgium. This small country, which only gained independence in the early 19th century, had long been a firearms production powerhouse, with Liège being the center of manufacturing. The shotgun breaks down correctly by removing the barrel wedge, which allows the barrel markings to be seen.

Condition is very good, with a lovely stock, and some light engraving in places. There is not much in the way of ornamentation, as this was a working gun, intended to help bring home dinner, either for your self or other people. The percussion locks are both fully functional, holding at half cock, and firing at full, though there is definitely some wobble in the hammers due to wear. There is a ramrod under the barrel, but it is a replacement made for display only.

A Monster that could live at your house that is ready to display!
