Original British Manufactured P-1842 East India Company Sappers and Miners Sword Bayonet for Hanoverian Bayonet Catch

Item Description

Original Items: Very Few Available. These are English made Sappers and Miners Sword bayonets, with makers marks on the back of every 22.5" blade. With an overall length of 28", these were intended for the "short" musket fitted with only a 30" barrel, which explains the bayonets long length.

These bayonets also fit the full length EIC Model E Muskets with standard 39" barrels, which makes for a very imposing weapon.

These came to us from our Nepalese Army purchase of 2003 and more in depth information can be found in David Harding's "SMALL ARMS OF THE EAST INDIA CO. 1650-1856 Volume 2" pages 262-264.

These all have maker marks on the spine of the blade, which can be faint, or possibly obscured by dirt and rust. If a maker had a registered mark, they would often just stamp that, which is easily obscured by dirt and grease. Most also will have a British Proof on the blade, and possibly Nepalese markings as well.

Extremely rare!
