Original British Flintlock Tiger Rifle by Baker - Cleaned 1/2 Gun
Original Item. One Only. In the bottom of a recently opened "Parts Chest" from our 2003 Palace purchase in Kathmandu, Nepal we found this interesting item. Sadly the entire Butt Stock has been broken away taking the iron trigger guard with it. However what remains is extremely interesting.
We offer this HALF RIFLE, in it's original Flintlock with roller frizzen and waterproof pan, the lock engraved but no longer showing makers name. The Octagonal barrel in about a very heavily RIFLED 70 bore is it's original 30" in length complete with folding rear sights and front sight in place. The Barrel is faintly but clearly marked:
The breach of the barrel has a heavily engraved separate barrel tang, and is fitted with a silver or nickel lined touch hole. There is a Maker's Cartouche to the rear of the barrel, above the frizzen impressed BAKER / LONDON below a small cartouche.
Unfortunately there is a Negari (Nepalese) number impressed into the top of the barrel also. The fore stock is complete with two barrel wedges in place, an iron throat pipe and two iron ramrod pies under the barrel. It retains a brass mounted, top and bottom, wood ramrod. Dating from 1815-1820 this no doubt was taken to Nepal by a British Officer after peace was declared in 1816 and Nepal fell under British influence.
The Butt stock cleanly "snapped away" at the wrist, probably in the field. We have unfortunately not been able to located it in the years since it was brought back from Nepal.
A nice, now fully cleaned TIGER RIFLE in Flintlock by one of London's top makers of the era. Missing Butt and front face of frizzen, ideal for carefully restoration
