Item Description
Original item: Only One Available. This is a very nice British East India Company "India Pattern" Brown Bess Musket, in very nice collectible condition. For all purposes this type is identical to the "Third Model" adopted later by British forces, which was the standard Musket of the line during 1815, the time of the Battle of Waterloo.
This example is definitely English made, displaying all the relevant EIC Musket features. The lock is East India Company marked, and is the correct post-1808 Mechanism showing the EIC Rampant Lion Logo and dated 1814 across the tail. It functions correctly, holding at half cock and firing at full. The barrel bears the correct London Proofhouse CROWN / GP "Gunmakers" black powder proof and CROWN / V viewed marks, as well as CROWN / 9.
The condition is quite nice, though there is a structural crack running through the wrist and lock area, which has not been repaired. There are some repairs around the barrel tang, and some repaired cracks on the fore stock. Also the toe of the butt stock is missing, and there is an inlet on the upper left butt stock by the butt plate, but we do not know the purpose. The trigger guard has been broken and repaired, and the front sling swivel is missing, though the trigger guard swivel is still present. The cleaning rod looks to be a recent replacement.
In fine condition, this musket is ready to display!
