Original Item: Only One Available. This is an extremely scarce Sappers and Miners Short Musket of the British East India Company, measuring 49 inches in overall length. Introduced in 1842, it utilizes the traditional musket length Musket Percussion Lock bearing E.I.C. “Rampant Lion Motif”. The quality of the engraving definitely indicates British manufacture, and not local production. Fitted with a 33" barrel, this Musket has all brass mounts; butt plate, no throat pipe, two ramrod pipes and Nose Cap. The brass trigger guard has the scroll grip behind the trigger guard itself simulating a "pistol grip" effect.
This musket comes with its original Sword Socket bayonet, with 22" sword blade, made for the "Hanovarian Pattern E" catch. There is a British proof mark on the right side of the blade, which looks to be a letter H over 4, but could also be a K or an R. The musket presents very well, and the lock functions correctly, holding at half cock and firing at full. It still retains both sling swivels and the correct cleaning rod.
This Sapper's Model is fully described on Pages 256/257 of Volume 2 of David Harding's magnificent work Small Arms of the East India Company 1600-1856.
In nice long stored condition for you to clean and display, a scarce East India Company well documented Musket.
